P.V Sindhu, silver medalist in Olympics has created history again by entering finals to fight against Nozomi who has been great at defending and rally with Saina Nehwal during Semi-finals. An immense pressure on P.V Sindhu after Saina loosing in semi finals as India is looked up to Sindhu to create history. Winning this match would have made Sindhu the no 1 ranking in the world. This is a maiden match at finals for both facing each other.
The match started with a great strike. PV sindhu has lead the points board in the starting, leaving Nozomi with a battering lead of 5 points. This did not last for long, with long rallies and strategic plays from both the sides Nozomi has won the first set with a lead of 19 – 21. During the second set Okuhara played the same tactics that she used on saina during semis to tier Sindhu with the longest rally shots of 73. Second set was one by sindhu with a true fight ending with 20-22. She has maintained the same pace till the third set by leaving a thriving desire from both the ends to win the match fighting for the last point Nozomi Okuhara finished it with a smash and won the BWC2017 maiden gold medal leaving Sindhu with silver.
It could be a record for India if Okuhara would have lost the semis, as the finals would be between Sindhu and Saina. This could have been the world record for India, as two Indians never had gone through this phase of facing the finals with each other. Keeping the expectations aside, this is a lesson that needs to be learnt by India and as well as other players that not to under estimate the strength of women. Saina and Sindhu the only two women who made India proud by coming to semins and finals respectively. India need to encourage more women talent supporting equal rights and for the players though we cannot be the right person to judge on their play, still we intend to mention that we need to fight back stronger and harder next time with giving the opponent a chance to think of strategies.
