The twenty first century happens to be the generation which has seen tremendous scientific innovations taking place. Innovations not only ease our lifestyles but also try to save our natural resources. One such invention is the Fontus bottle that automatically gets filled with water by converting humid air into drinkable water. Not only this concept sounds appealing but it can potentially help in the rising water problems.
Even though water is considered to be a renewable resource, with the growing needs and demands the freshwater percentage is decreasing alarmingly. All sorts of garbage, toxic substances and radioactive materials are dumped into water bodies proving them to be unfit for human consumption. Fontus comes into play here; it simply condenses the humidity present in air into water. There is always some percentage of humidity in air, it doesn’t matter where, even in the desserts which suggests that one could always potentially be able to extract humidity from air.
Fontus consists of a solar powered device enclosing a condenser which is connected to a series of hydrophobic surface that are water repellant. Humid air enters the device making contact with the hydrophobic surfaces, being water repellant these surfaces immediately repel the condensed water so the potable water flows into the bottle. Basically air is being taken in its vapor stated and is converted into liquid state. A solar power panel on the lid is also added which keeps the battery charged and also acts as an a membrane to keep the dust and bugs out of the water. The water is clean unless the air is really contaminated.
With this mechanism, Fontus can produce half litre water in an hour which is considered very effective in conditions with temperature 30 to 40 degrees Celsius and between 80 to 90 percent humidity. The idea was to solve water problems in areas of the world where there is very little groundwater but very high humidity.
#Fontus is also very useful for travelers or adventurers, those who know the anxiety that comes with lack of water in the middle of a tour. The last thing that anyone wants is dehydration when they are miles away from home, hence Fontus comes into. Apart from automatically filling water it can also be used to charge phones and the overall usage is quite simple, comfortable with small and easy design.
