India’s Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World 2017 at Sanya in China. After 17 years an Indian has been crowned as Miss World at the international Pageant. The Haryana girl was previously crowned this years Femina Miss India 2017, leading her to the global competition race.
Coming from well educated family and parents both being doctors completed her schooling from St. Thomas School in Delhi Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat. This 21 year old who sacrificed one whole year of her medical education just to participate in the Miss India Competition, also she grew up idolising Reita Faria, the First Indian and Asian who won Miss World in the year 1996.
The most captivating moment happened with her heartfelt reply to the question that judges posed – “Which profession in the world deserves the highest salary and why? and her reply was ” My mother has been my biggest inspiration, so I have to say, a mother’s job. It is not always about cash, but love and respect as well. A mother deserves that the most.”(As quoted by “firstpost”)
Chhillar was named as the winner and was crowned by Miss World 2016, Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico. This is India’s 6th Miss World title, the last being Priyanka Chopra in 2000. The first runner up is from Mexico, Andrea Meza and the second runner up is from England, Stephanie Hill.

Chhillar after being Miss India was asked if she would follow the footsteps of former pageant winners like Sushmita sen, Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka she said “I disagree with the notion. I feel that Miss India is a stepping stone for anything you want to do, not just Bollywood.” (As quoted by “firstpost”).
