The first ever fully painted animated film in the world, ‘Loving Vincent’ made by 65,000 frames made of oil painting on canvas got released in 2017 September. This story is based on the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. Director Dorota Kobiela made sure that Vincent’s story should be shown as realistically as possible which was not possible without his paintings, hence it was necessary to bring his paintings to life.
This masterpiece displays the complicated life and the controversial death of Vincent Van Gogh in most creative way through the art work. It is an animation wonder in the world with 100 artists in two countries working to give it a magical touch in Vincent’s own style.
The entire story of 95 minutes has been made in 853 shots and the story is being told by the people who knew Vincent. This celebrated Artist was known to have bi-polar disease and was ridiculed by some. He was an intelligent and a sensitive person who experienced a sad childhood and was a misfit in the society. Even though he possessed and showed immense natural talent of art. This is clearly seen in his Art works. He sent his paintings to his brother Theo since he never sold his own works. But his brother attempted to sell some of Vincent’s paintings in the Paris art gallery. Ironically, Vincent’s paintings are known to be the most expensive art work ever sold in modern times.
All the paintings in the film portray the details of his life, his works and the distressed time he has gone through. It is known that he went under the care of Dr. Gachet after the famous incident of cutting his own ear under distress. There he found a similar spirit and likeness in the Doctor who too loved art, which helped him to recover.
The film is a piece of exceptional hard work, patience and talent. It has so beautifully depicted the life of Vincent through only paintings that it has automatically set a record in the world in its own kind.
