40 Years of interstellar space travel – Voyager I.

Source : NASA

We have come a long way since we have taken the first step towards the space innovation. NASA persistently has given its effort towards space inventions by experimenting with probes. One of the greatest missions that NASA has ever launched was the 1977 Voyager. Covering around 12 billion miles from earth it has made it’s mark in history of being the first human made object to reach the interstellar space.

On September 1977, Voyager has been launched to outer space. The main objective of this mission was to know about the solar system and the outer space.

On the occasion of its 40th year in space  NASA is celebrating its great travel. This craft is sending and transmitting the information from the space to earth even after 40 years of it’s travel.

So let’s have a cursory glance of mind-blowing facts of Voyager and why it is an important initiative for science and technology.

On 5 September 2017, Voyager will complete its 40th year in the space. By reaching out this phase of time it has become one of the oldest devices in the space which is still in connection with the earth.

It has traversed over 12 billion miles this may not be understandable to you, in simpler terms it has circled the earth over 440,000 times. This number is the biggest to achieve in the history of space inventions.

It was only meant to survey Jupiter

The intention of launching Voyager 1 and its 2nd version is to do a proper inspection on Jupiter and Saturn. This launch has turned out to be a highly successful event. This had given scientists some great information about the planetary system and their formation. It has also helped by giving them a close picture on how to analyse the space in a greater manner. It was also invented to have a closure look of moon and in this task as well it has given scientists a better perspective of understanding.

It’s made up of plutonium

The spacecraft was built with the long lasting and reliable plutonium batteries for its fuel and it is a real wonder that those batteries are going on till date. Experimenting on such long lasting things helps scientist to make another project successful as well as without getting a headache about their sustainability.

It’s communication with scientists

Along with its launch, it has also maintained the radio waves which helps in communicating with scientists. These radio waves establish an easy way to communicate even being out of the solar system. It takes only 16 hours to receive this message from the Voyager. This helps in maintaining a proper connection from other satellites as well which give proper information about the satellite and space movement.

It conveys a message for alien life

It also carries a golden audio recording which is meant to connect with aliens. This has recorded greetings of over 55 languages and earth sounds. This may increase the chances of research and connecting to aliens.
