It is the most brutal and heart-wrenching story you might have ever heard. A gory murder of a seven-year old boy, in his own school early morning is unthinkable to any parent. The site of murder was a washroom in Ryan International School, and the unfortunate victim was Pradhyuman Thakur. His throat was found cut slit and body lying in a pool of blood, minutes after his father left him at the school. The bus conductor has reportedly confessed the crime where it appears to be a case of attempted sodomy and cold-blooded murder. He has been arrested and investigation in the case is now being conducted under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 25 of the Arms Act, 12 of the POCSO Act, and Section 75 of the JJ Act.
This brings us to the question as to how could such heinous act be committed inside the school premises within minutes of the beginning of classes. There have some shocking revelations from the school as the investigation deepens. The Special Investigation Team that was appointed reports that there are no separate toilets for students and staff in the school. A part of the boundary wall has been broken which is potentially risky showing utter negligence. Since there is no visual evidence of this homicide, it was appalling to know that the CCTC cameras of the school were dysfunctional. In addition to that, fire extinguishers had expired. In fact, a liquor shop was present adjacent to the school that was vandalized by the protesting parents.
Pradhyuman’s parents are devastated and inconsolable. They’re relentlessly pleading justice for their innocent son. Furthermore, parents of other students of Ryan International School have created massive uproar outside the school and are vehemently castigating the school administration for such grave lapses. The fear among the other parents has turned into hammering protests. The Principal of the school has been suspended as she faces the ire of severe maladministration. Meanwhile, the victim’s father has moved to the Supreme Court to request for a CBI probe into his son’s brutal killing. The committee appointed by the Haryana Government has already submitted its report on the preliminary investigation.
As the case advances, the whole country is stunned with the savagery. Each one is blaming the school for being absolutely oblivious of the possibility of such incident. Two officials of Ryan International School have been arrested. A four-member team of Gurgaon police has visited Mumbai to investigate the CEO of Ryan group, Ryan Pinto. Although the mysterious murder case hasn’t been solved yet, there are huge demonstrations across the country questioning the credibility of schools in protecting small and innocent children. Everyone is as terrified as Pradhyuman’s classmates and friends. Such nightmarish incidents are a direct indication of the security lapses in schools and inadequacy of vigilance and protections actions. Questions are being raised at the Ryan International School’s administration as to how couldn’t they hear screams of the child. Besides, the police have alleged that evidence has been tampered with and authorities are trying to cover things up. Is it possible that the conductor has been made a scapegoat to a larger controversial school system? Or have the evidence been tampered with? Haryana government is under huge public pressure yet again for gross negligence and hence the state police are pursuing the case with all its power and capacity. The truth needs to come out, else every parent will live in the fear of losing one’s child like the distraught and despairing mother of Pradhyuman.
