Rohan Bopanna and her Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski took revenge from Heather Watson and Henri Kontimen for their Wimbledon defeat in the first round of mixed doubles and easily surpassed the challenge presented by the American-Spanish pair of N Monroe and M Martinez Sanchez but couldn’t cross the line against the New Zealand-Taiwanese pair of M. Venus and H. Chan. Elsewhere, Sania Mirza along with her Chinese partner Shuai Peng played a hard fought match to advance in women’s doubles event and is now in the quarters. The Indo-Chinese pair will be up against the Hungarian-Czech pair of T Babos and A. Hlaváčková.
Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner, Shuai Peng are seeded fourth and took around 2 hours against the Spanish-Romanian pair of Sara Sorribes Tormo and Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 in the fourth round of Women’s doubles and are now in the quarters. Indian player Sania Mirza has already bowed out of mixed doubles event with her Croatian partner named Ivan Dodig by losing in the first round of mixed doubles. She reached the finals at mixed doubles event last year with the same partner.
On late Monday Night, French Open Champions Gabriela Dabrowski and Rohan Bopanna were up against the New Zealander-Taiwanese pair of M Venus and H Chan. They started well by winning the first set 6-4. In the second set Indo-Canadian pair were broken early and couldn’t really recover and lost the second set 6-3. In the tie-breaker though Bopanna served some long serves and made sure that they take this match deep. However, some unusual unforced errors from Bopanna and her parter Dabrowski helped M. Venus and H. Chan who eventually won the set 10-8. With this loss Indian’s hope now rest on Sania Mirza who is the only Indian left in the draw now.
