On Monday evening, Saudi Arabia experienced shocking news about one of the high-ranking prince passing away in a helicopter crash along with few other government officials.
Saudi Prince Mansour Bin Muqrin was killed on Sunday in a helicopter crash near Yemen. There were several other officials in the helicopter along with the Prince. Al Arabiya, a Saudi owned news channel based in Dubai announced the death of the Prince Mansour Bin Muqrin. According to the reports, seven other officials have also been killed in the crash.
Saudi Prince Mansour Bin Muqrin was the deputy governor of Asir province. He is a son of a former one time Crown Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz. He was also the former director-general of the Saudi Intelligence Agency. Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz was removed as crown prince by Kind Salman in April 2015. The crown prince now is Mohammed Bin Salman, 32 years old, the son of King Salman.
The cause of the death has not been announced yet. Although, the Saudi officials said that the search of this incident is underway. The wreckage of the plane was found on Monday near the Yemen borders. The investigation is still in search of any survivors on the plane.
This incident took place after they had intercepted a missile near Riyadh airport on Saturday that was fired from Yemen. Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a coalition war with the Houthis in the Yemen region.
The news of this incident also happened a day after the country arrests a large number of upper ranks officials, prince, and ministers by the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman under the anti- corruption campaign led by the crown Prince. This unprecedented move was done as an attempt to cement the power of their heir to the throne. The arrests include dozens of people, 11 prince, four ministers and dozens of ex-ministers. One of the important people arrested is the Billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal who is the owner of a firm which has huge investments in Citigroup and Twitter among the other major companies.
The Saudi Prince Mansour Bin Muqrin was on the helicopter along with few other officials to inspect the developmental projects in Al-Saida Al- Sawalha center. He was out there to inspect various defense and environmental projects near Abha area, 520 miles southwest of Riyadh.
A short video of the prince boarding the helicopter along with the other officials surfaced in the internet after the news of this crash broke.
