So what is the technology used by the Soft Wheels Company? They follow a patented expertise that targets at replacing traditional spoke-and rim wheels with creatively designed suspension systems. To achieve the most comfortable and energy efficient wheels, the company uses, “in wheel” shock absorbers that automatically adjust to desired conditions, whether rigid or cushioned. They use a “symmetric and selective technology,” that uses compression cylinders as shock absorbers within the wheel before they are mounted on riders. Let’s briefly discuss the four-fold technology: The “in-wheel suspension” mechanism resorts to using the three in-built suspension arms inside the wheel rim, allowing absorption of shocks emanating from any direction. The “adaptive rigidity” technology holds the three suspension arms like spokes, rigid and strong. They are designed in a manner that in adverse situations, they can compress to absorb shock automatically. The third technology termed as “rapid shock reset”, is one in which the suspension arms readily respond to an impactful situation, where the three suspension arms of Soft Wheel resets immediately, to absorb the shock entirely. The “single-piece rigid rims” mechanism uses extremely rigid and strong built rims to offer optimum stability and ensure accelerated ride as much as its competitor prototypes in the market.
Soft Wheels, currently has a robust production line based in Isreal and is setting up another in Europe. Soft Wheel’s technology is novel. The modular feature of the design uses a plug and play formula, where switching wheels appears simple. This aspect has appealed to several aeronautic and industrial applications. Daniel Barel, CEO of Soft Wheel describes the company’s cutting edge in wheel reinvention to make wheels that can give riders miraculous experience like traversing stairs and gliding down ramps. According to Barel, the traditional wheelchair designs create a certain amount of discomfort for the riders caused by lack of suspension in their design. He believes that Soft Wheels products have a scope for advanced application in heavy transportation vehicles like trains, cars, cranes and landing gears of airplanes.
