Automobile giants, Tesla are looking to spread their reach beyond luxury cars. The Tesla Semi is the all new heavy duty electric truck which is another step towards a more electric automobile future. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been hyping the all new Semi for quite some time now. He took to twitter to announce even the first prototype is ready for the Tesla Semi. On being asked about the specs, Musk hyped up even further stating that, it had some of the best specs he had ever seen. The electric truck is said to have a working range of 200 to 300 miles. The Tesla Semi was delayed by Tesla with more focus going into the Model 3 productions.
Originally scheduled to release in late October, Elon Musk pushed back the reveal to mid-November owing to the Model 3 productions and helping in the battery production for Puerto Rico. A recent photograph also surfaced in the internet of a truck which many claim to be the Tesla Semi. Elon Musk in his usual manner did not dismiss any claims and ended up adding fuel to the fire.
The Tesla Semi is engineered by former Daimler executive, Jerome Guilen. He was also Tesla’s Vice President of vehicle engineering and program director for Model S. Guilen has had experience in the heavy truck department as he has successfully helped engineer the Cascadia truck program. With the help of the Tesla Semi, the transportation cost will be lowered by a respectable margin. The Semi can go up to 300 miles with goods before needing a recharge.
Elon Musk looks to directly pit his battery powered truck against the orthodox diesel run trucks. There also have been numerous claims that Tesla have been meeting up with potential customers for their Semi. Among other rumors, there have been talks of fast charging and swapping of the battery. Albeit these are just speculations at this point of time, we have to wait and see more about the Tesla Semi on November 16. There have been many in the heavy vehicle industry who thinks an electric vehicle will not be able to operate the load and distance. Musk on the other hand claims that this truck will be one of a kind with high weight and distance capabilities.
The chief executive also said the Semi and Tesla’s Model 3 will have many of the same components. Musk has added that the prototype is way better with its specifications and it feels more like a sports car than a huge truck. Now with the prototype ready to go, this could really change long range and heavy transportation for many industries. The operating cost will be reduced as well as there will be no harmful emissions which are in the case of diesel trucks. If it is true what Tesla say everyone will be raring to get their hands on the Semi.
Coming November everyone’s eyes will be fixed on Elon Musk’s another Master plan in the form the Tesla Semi.
