Elon Musk and his company SpaceX came with an exceptional idea of colonizing Mars so as to overcome with the burden on planet Earth. He believed that this will not only solve the problem of overcrowding on the Earth but also simultaneously reduce the burden of rising population to feed. The team had a vision of building a space sport, a city and ultimately a planet they could geo-engineer to be as a second Earth.
The success will take him to next level of exploration which will also open the doors for new generation of scientists and engineers along the way. But there lies a big catch which aims at planning the complex landscape unlikely to Earth. Musk disclosed rocket named “BFR” which is going to make it to Mars hasn’t been initiated to even been built yet. There are many more hurdles, technical as well as non-technical which Musk needs to reconsider to fulfil his Mars colonization fantasy which at now just sounds like a dream.
Firstly, “Planetary Protection”, looking at idea of colonizing a completely strange planet as Mars, the thing strikes to mind is what if some dangerous or harmful organism exists on the strange planet which lastly brings whole progress to zero. The issues need to be reconsidered by the team of astro – biologists and planetary protection specialists. The issue needs to be reconciled between stringent international policies and government driven space missions. To reconsider, one more serious issue comes under this section is what if something harmful comes along with the space craft from Mars to Earth and invade the already developed civilisation ending up in catastrophe.
The Next concern is about the adaptability of human bodies to such a harsh environment at Mars. With already rising temperatures on Earth due to global warming, some of the countries often experience a temperature rise up to 50 degrees which is harsh to survive, then how on planet Mars any life would sustain? This will invite high risk of diseases with almost no medical support or development. Lastly, the BFR spacecraft, which estimates of high cost and high on carbon emission when planet Earth is at the stage of taking care of even very least amount of carbon emission. The carbon emission from BFR is believed to be so much high that it has now been in process as in how to cut off the carbon emission. The final technical details need to be modified in order to be successful in this mission and as Musk believes in saving the humanity is the aim of the mission.
